Having farmed at the Grange for forty years Chris & Simon Redding Diversified into property development in 2001. The most recent project was the Grange Business Park, completed in July 2005. The aim was to build as sustainably as possible, introduce energy saving schemes whilst still being a commercial project.
This year The Grange Business Park won the top Green Apple award for environmental best practice, Green Champion Farming & Agricultural. The Green Apple is an internationally recognised environmental award.
Our design team included David Noble of White Design and Tim Mander of Integral Structural Design.andMichael Clark of Michael Clark Management. Together we gathered a vast knowledge of eco friendly construction from the planning stage right through to completion of the project. In particular:
Straw bale walls
The Grange Business Park buildings are thought to have the largest straw buildings in Europe, the only ones to use large bales. The walls better current building regulations for U/values by a factor of 8.
Heating & Cooling
Using Geo- Thermal ground loops, water to water & air to air heat pumps & night time air purging natural ventilation.
Rainwater Harvesting
Roof water is collected and used to flush toilets.
Low energy lighting
Making the most of natural light, low energy bulbs and tubes, l.e.d lighting.
Recycling building
Re-using concrete by crushing disused concrete, reclaiming wooden beams and railway sleepers for roofs and landscaping materials.
